Texas Flame Operator Certification Practice Test

For Flame Group VI, what additional requirement applies when cast members are in close proximity to the flame effect?

The flame effect is controlled by a backup manual system.

No additional requirement.

The flame effect must be fully automatic with no manual controls.

The flame effect is under active control of a main show control system and a PME.

When performers are in close proximity to a flame effect, the control of that effect must be centralized and actively monitored. The flame should be under the ongoing command of both the main show control system and a PME. This setup ensures the timing and ignition are coordinated with the show and that there is a direct, ready-to-act safety channel if a performer moves into a hazard zone. The main show control system handles the overall cues and interlocks, while the PME provides an additional layer of supervision and intervention capability. This dual, active control reduces the risk of accidental ignition and allows immediate shutdown if needed.

That’s why relying on a standalone manual backup or on a fully automatic, no-manual-control arrangement isn’t appropriate for close proximity scenes—the system needs coordinated control and a safety override path to protect cast members.
